Kabogo Cancels Wines and Spirits Licenses

What had become one of the most lucrative businesses in Kiambu county has been brought to an unexpected halt following the cancellation of licenses of all wine and spirits.

Kiambu Governor William Kabogo took the step in an effort to curb excessive alcohol consumption in the county.

The move by Kabogo comes just days after Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu received back lash for leading a mob in breaking open bars in the area in the name of fighting alcoholism.

Speaking on Wednesday during the disbursement of investment funds to youth in Kiambu County, Kabogo called on the residents to support government efforts in fighting alcoholism.

He gave a stern warning that anyone found operating a wines and spirits outlet in the county will be persecuted, The Nation reports.

Kiambu county has in the recent past been the subject of various discussions relating to excessive alcohol consumption following revelations that the county spend more money than any other in Kenya on alcohol.
