3 Independent MPs-Elect Join DP Ruto's Kenya Kwanza

Update: 14:01: After President-elect William Ruto met with Kenya Kwanza's elected leaders he revealed that the alliance has been able to recruit 10 Independent Members of Parliament.

He stated that 8 Independent MPs-elect were in the meeting and the key among them was Kangundo MP-elect Fabian Muli of the Grand Dream Development Party.


Three independent MPs-elect have joined the Kenya Kwanza alliance after meeting with president-elect William Samoei Ruto.

Njoroge Kururia of Gatundu North, Ekesa Mulanya of Nambale and Nebart Muriuki of Mbere South joined Kenya Kwanza in a move that was seen as the coalition's plan to consolidate more numbers in the National Assembly.

Mulanya lost in Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party nominations to businessman Ken Okwara but won the August 9, election.

Gatundu's Njoroge Kururia met Ruto and deputy president-elect, Rigathi Gachagua, on Tuesday, August 16, and this is when he made the decision to join Kenya Kwanza.

Details of the meeting were, however, scanty.

The president-elect also met the Mbeere South MP-elect, Nebart Muriuki, who confirmed via social media that he had joined Kenya Kwanza.

Kenya Kwanza bagged 24 Woman Rep seats while its rival Azimio La Umoja got 20 seats. 

The Ruto-led coalition got 22 Governors while Azimio got 21. In the Senate, Kenya Kwanza got 24 slots while Azimio got 23.

In the National Assembly, Azimio holds the majority with 162 seats while Kenya Kwanza has 159 seats. 

They will likely be unveiled on Wednesday, August 17, when DP Ruto will meet the UDA and Kenya Kwanza elected leaders in the just concluded polls.  

UDA Secretary General, Veronica Maina, in a notice, stated that the inaugural caucus scheduled to start at 9am would include elected governors, senators, MPs, and Woman representatives elected under Kenya Kwanza. 

"The President-Elect and the Deputy President-Elect will soon convene regional inaugural caucus meetings for all members of the county assembly elected through the political parties of the Kenya Kwanza coalition," Maina stated.
