Following allegations of harassment and persecution of IEBC officials, the commission opted to postpone the by-elections scheduled for Tuesday, August 23.
Chebukati, on Wednesday, August 17, noted that areas affected by the announcement include the gubernatorial by-elections in Kakamega and Mombasa, MPs elections in Kitui, Kacheliba, Pokot South, and Rongai in Nakuru.
Others include MCAs elections in Nyaki West and Kwa Njenga wards in Imenti and Embakasi South respectively.
"The elections will be held at another date announced through a Gazette Notice," Chebukati stated.
According to IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati, some of his officials who performed their duties impartially are being intimidated through profiling.
The chairman added that the increased cases resulted in a growing fear among his staff who acted objectively.
"The Commission is concerned that some of its critical staff who objectively and impartially performed their duties at the National Tallying Centre are being intimidated and harassed through profiling and/or arbitrary arrests.
"This has instilled fear within the staff, who are now unable to report to the office for duty. This harassment must stop forthwith," he added.
During the announcement of the presidential results, he added, the chairperson, commissioners Prof. Abdi Guliye and Boya Molu, and CEO Marjan Hussein were physically attacked, assaulted, and injured by persons in the company of certain political leaders.
"We call for the arrest and prosecution of these assailants regardless of their political affiliation," he added.
Elections in the aforementioned areas were initially postponed after a mixup in the printing of ballot papers and rampant insecurity.
The commission established that the ballot papers had inaccurate details of candidates.
