Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif arrived at Kwenia Farm on Saturday, October 22, where he was a frequent visitor in the company of his brother, Khuraam Ahmed, a few days before his demise.

The deceased spent the weekend on the farm, which had several facilities, including a shooting range which is believed to be owned by his friend of Pakistani origin.

According to staff who work at the farm, Sharif left Kwenia Farm while in the company of his brother on the fateful day, Sunday, October  23.

Reports indicated that the renowned journalist continued piecing together an investigative report he had been working on.

His brother was said to be the driver of a V8 car they travelled in when they encountered their death off Magadi Road in Kajiado County.

Before that, police who had erected a stone roadblock claimed that they flagged down the car, which was under their radar, as a similar vehicle had been reported missing in Nairobi.

Sharif's brother reportedly sped past the roadblock prompting the law enforcement officers to chase the car and open fire, leading to the death of the investigative journalist.

His brother, Khuraam, immediately called their friend, who advised him to go to his place, but upon reaching the gate, he realised Sharif had been killed.

On Monday, October 24, the National Police Service (NPS) issued a statement admitting the death of the Pakistani journalist, which they claimed was a case of mistaken identity.

The statement further indicated that the 50-year-old broadcaster was aboard a motor vehicle registration number KDG 2*** at the time of the incident. The vehicle was towed to Kiserian Police Station in Kajiado County.

"Before they reached the Kiserian-Magadi road, they found the road blocked using small stones and they decided to pass them," read the police report.

"It was then they heard gunshots towards their vehicle directed from the front and rear. They did not stop and proceeded with the journey," it added.

An autopsy report indicated that the broadcaster died of a single gunshot through his head.

According to police, the whole fiasco started hours earlier when a Kenyan in Nairobi reported that his car, with his son inside, had been stolen. The case was filed at Pangani Police Station.

His son was later found at Olosuritia ACK Church within the Kiserian area.

Pakistan's government called on President William Ruto to expedite investigations into Sharif's death.

"Just had a telephone call with Kenyan President William Ruto about the tragic death of Arshad Sharif in Kenya. I requested him to ensure fair and transparent investigations into the shocking incident," Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated.
