New details have emerged over the disappearance of the Indian TV magnate Zulfiqar Khan after the Kenyan police could not produce him in court.

Rajiv Dubey, who worked with Khan, explained in his call to action at Change(dot)org that the Kenyan police were duped by a profile on LinkedIn that led them to the Indian media personality describing him as a cyber security expert.

In the petition that has since garnered 4,586 signatures, Dubey explained that the mistake was discovered when the High Court demanded the police to produce the suspect.

"Local Police in Kenya are clueless. They have been asked by the High Court of the land to produce Zulfi but they have no idea where he is. There are scattershot reports in the Kenyan media where they picked up the wrong LinkedIn profile of another Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan and called our Zulfi a 'cyber security expert.'

"Which would be funny if it weren’t scary. Most of the information on him in their media is completely baseless and without any proper research," read the statement in part.

He further noted that Khan regularly contacted his friends and updated his family on social media but everything went silent on July 21.

Prior, the tycoon had informed them that he intended to travel to India on July 24 and return to Kenya towards the year-end for the great migration.

In one of his final telephone conversations, he urged his friends to visit Masai Mara describing it as a lovely place.

"We enjoyed watching his social media posts of breath-taking Masai Mara and all the amazing food he was partaking of. In his telephone conversations with friends, he said he was returning on July 24 but planned to be back towards the year end to witness the Great Migration across the Mara River.

"He had spoken to some of his friends just days earlier and talked about wildlife at length and advised them to visit this "lovely" place. And then Zulfi just disappeared. Without a trace. No contact with family or friends," he added.

Khan is believed to have been abducted along Mombasa Road after leaving a club in Westlands. He was in the company of his friend and their driver.

His disappearance is a hot-button issue in Kenya and is believed to be among many incidents that led to the disbandment of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Special Service Unit (SSU).

President William Ruto, who gave the directive for its disbandment, argued that the unit caused more harm than good and was behind some of the country's extra-judicial killings.
