The Inspector General of police Japhet Koome has announced changes in the administration of the Nairobi police force.

Koome made the changes in a bid to curb the rising cases of insecurity in the city. The changes are set to take effect immediately.

The announcement by the country's top cop came a day after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki signaled drastic changes in the police force.

"We have already started taking measures already to deal with the emerging crime trend in Nairobi. In this regard, the command of the Nairobi city police has changed effective immediately," Kindiki stated on Monday, November 14.

Following the announcement, Adamson Bungei has been appointed the new county boss and is set to replace James Mugera who has retired. Mugera had earlier refuted claims that criminal cases had spiked in the city.

Earlier, Bungei served as the OCPD of Buruburu and Central police before his deployment to Baringo county as the police commander.

Abdallah Komesha is the new Principal Deputy to the IG replacing Munga Nyale. Munga will now serve as the Director of Police Reforms at the Police Headquarters.

Prior to the appointment, Komesha was the Head of Personnel in the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Headquarters.

While Boniface Maingi is the Director of Operations. Maingi previously served as the National Police Service Director of Personnel and will take over from Rashid Yakub.

Notably, Yakub will now be the director of the Community Policing wing.

Judy Lamet has been promoted to the Deputy Director of Police operations. She previously served as the Director of the Child Protection Unit.

In the changes, Jacinta Muthoni was appointed as the director of personnel at the police headquarters.

In the press briefing held to address the public outcry, Kindiki reiterated that the government will not spare a small percentage of Kenyans disrupting the peace of the majority.

"The team (multi-agency) will get our errant sons, maybe daughters out of our streets and put them where criminals belong. We cannot trade our freedom and security for anything," Kindiki declared.
