The family of a mother and her daughter, who lost their lives a day on December 31, 2022, along the Nairobi-Namanga Road, recounted the final moments leading to the fatal accident

Speaking to the press, the son of 63-year-old Abigael Magero noted that she was excited to pay a visit to her daughter, 41-year-old Joan Magero, to usher in the New year together- albeit the plans took an unfortunate turn.

According to the son, the duo had made plans to do shopping before resuming back home.

The mother and the daughter delved to cross over to a local supermarket- a decision that ultimately turned fatal as a speeding Prado rammed into them.

"I knew my mother was undergoing health issues, so she always visited hospitals for checkups. But I wondered why did they take her to George Saitoti morgue?

"At the time, I was trying to connect the dots. The doctor informed me that an elderly lady and a middle-aged woman had succumbed at the hospital," he recounted.

Reports indicated that police apprehended the driver of the speeding Prado, and his vehicle was impounded.

According to the OCS, the 32-year-old driver, driving at high speed, was released on a Ksh50,000 bond.

The suspect will return to court to answer the charges after the post-mortem results of the deceased are conducted.

In addition, the residents called for the government to erect a flyover, and bumps as safety measures for those crossing to access the local supermarket.

According to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), 4,248 fatalities were recorded between January 1, 2022, and November 30, 2022.

Pedestrians' death tallied at 1,534, followed by motorcyclists with 1,124 and passengers at 752.
