Kisii County has posted the highest number of students transitioning from primary school to Junior Secondary School (JSS) and Secondary Schools.

According to the Kisii County Director of Education Pius Ng’oma, a record 98 per cent of students had already reported for JSS.

Similarly, 90 per cent of students who had been admitted to various secondary schools in the region had already reported for Form One admission.

Ng’oma announced that the number could be higher but some students had decided to join Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions (TVET).

The high enrollment rate in the region came against a backdrop of Kisii and Nyamira counties posting stellar 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results.

In the 2022 KCSE exams, the region saw a record number of students attain direct admission to universities.

For example, Nyambaria and Mobamba High Schools led the pack with 488 and 388 candidates securing university admission respectively.

Other schools that posted emerged top from the region include; Kebirigo High School, Nyakongo Boys, Kebabe Girls, St. Kizito Nyansiongo Boys and Cardinal Otunga Secondary School.

Ng’oma though did not attribute the rush to register students at the region to a result of the impressive KCSE performance.

“We have been able to achieve almost 100 per cent transition in JSS because we have made sure that no child is being charged tuition fee,” he revealed.

The Director further attributed the success to a multiagency team led by National Government Administration Officers (NGAO).

“The team led by NGAO makes sure that there is a follow-up for students who have not reported or who have moved out of the country,” he explained.

Ng’oma further revealed that most school principals and administrative chiefs were working towards attaining 100 per cent transition.

“We are glad that some principals and chiefs have gone an extra mile to make door-to-door visits to make sure students report to school," he explained further the county’s effort in making sure every child reported to school.

On Wednesday, February 15, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu revealed that over 200,000 students were yet to join Junior Secondary School(JSS).
