Najma Ismael started out at Iqra FM where she worked as a news anchor and reporter, later on she joined Sound Asia FM. Her big break came in 2006 when she was employed by Radio Africa as a news anchor and reporter for Classic 105 and Kiss 100. Seven years later she got another big break when KTN hired her as a news anchor/reporter a position she is currently holding.

One of her best moments on air was when doing features on ‘KTN Job Center’. She got to change the lives of several youth by giving them a national platform to get employment.

Najma did her O-levels at the Aga Khan High School and later joined Griffins College for computer studies. She enrolled at the University of Nairobi for a diploma in Public Relations and is currently doing a degree in Journalism at the Kenya Methodist University (KEMU).

Her hobbies include watching movies, a good swim, sampling various restaurants and spending time with family.

Najma has been awarded as one of the Top 30 Muslim Achievers in Kenya.

Her advice for anyone who wants to follow in the path of journalism:

‘Choose this career if you are passionate about it. Don't take it for the fame and glamour. If you are not passionate about this field you will not be able to survive the long hours. Also if you are looking for an exciting job then journalism is the field for you. You will never get bored!’
