
Absa Bank Kenya CEO and MD Abdi Mohamed is among the movers and shakers in the banking industry in 2024.
Mohamed has a wealth of experience, having spent more than 15 years in the competitive realm of banking.
After graduating from Kenyatta University with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration in 1992, Mohamed pursued an MBA in International Business at Edith Cowan University in Australia.
He also attended IMD Business School for Management and Leadership Courses between 2019 and 2021 as he sharpened his skills to become a formidable project leader.
In terms of experience, the Absa Bank CEO has worked at Barclays Bank as the Regional Head of Islamic Banking in East and West Africa before becoming the Consumer Banking Director in 2008. He eventually transitioned to Chief Operating Officer – a position he held until April 2016.
After a stint as Managing Director and CEO at Absa Bank Tanzania from 2020 to 2023, Mohamed was appointed CEO of Absa Bank Kenya – a position that has seen him establish himself as one of the more impactful leaders in banking in the country.
Recently, he was recognised for building the brand by the African Brand Leadership Award 2024 for standing out in his role in building Absa Bank.
During his short tenure as CEO, Absa Bank has experienced a 29% increase in profit after tax, reaching an impressive KSh10.7 billion in the first half of 2024.
