Alexander Mutiso Munyao is a record-breaking Kenyan long-distance runner who had a stellar year in 2024, solidifying his position as one of Kenya’s elite marathon runners.
His standout achievement was claiming victory at the prestigious TCS London Marathon, marking his first-ever World Marathon Majors title.
Munyao clocked an impressive 2:04:01 to beat seasoned Ethiopian runner Kenenisa Bekele, a 21-time global titleholder, in a gripping head-to-head finish.
This victory not only showcased his endurance but also strengthened his case for selection to represent Kenya at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Having previously come close to clinching a major win, including a runner-up finish at the 2023 Valencia Marathon, where he recorded a personal best of 2:03:11, this triumph was particularly significant for him.
The London Marathon victory also marked a critical milestone in his career, as it placed him among the top contenders for the Olympic team alongside iconic runners like Eliud Kipchoge and Benson Kipruto.
The win was emotional for Munyao as he dedicated his performance to the late Kelvin Kiptum, the 2023 London Marathon champion, who tragically passed away in early 2024.
