Benson Kipruto

Benson Kipruto is a Kenyan marathoner who has won multiple major marathons and is one of the most consistent and accomplished road runners, his latest being competing at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.

The 33-year-old has an impressive track record, including victories at the Boston Marathon in 2021, the Chicago Marathon in 2022, and the Tokyo Marathon earlier this year.

In 2023, he finished second in the Chicago Marathon, setting a personal best time of 2:04:02, just three minutes behind compatriot Kelvin Kiptum, who broke the world marathon record.

Kipruto also won the 2018 Toronto Waterfront Marathon with a time of 2:07:24 and the 2021 Prague Marathon, clocking 2:10:16.

At the Paris Olympic Games, Kipruto claimed a bronze medal in the marathon, finishing ahead of his mentor, Eliud Kipchoge.

Before venturing into athletics, Kipruto worked as a shopkeeper in his hometown after completing his secondary education.

Kipruto is the younger brother of Dickson Chumba, an accomplished athlete and winner of the 2014 Tokyo Marathon and the 2015 Chicago Marathon.

In October this year, Kipruto was nominated for the World Athletics Out of Stadium Athlete of the Year award.

As the reigning Tokyo Marathon champion, Kipruto is competing in the male category against Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo, Ecuador’s Brian Pintado, and Ethiopia’s Tamirat Tola and Yomif Kejelcha.
