Nelly Cheboi is the current Chief Executive Officer of TechLit Africa - a company that uses recycled computers to create technology-based laboratories in schools.
The program, according to Cheboi, seeks to provide children from humble backgrounds with digital skills needed to unlock opportunities for budding talents.
Born and bred in Mogotio, Baringo County, Cheboi's family grew up in poverty as her mother struggled to provide for her family.
Her fortunes changed in 2012 when she earned a scholarship to study Computer Science at Augustana College in Illinois, United States.
After graduating in 2015, she worked as a business analyst and software engineer for two firms based in the United States; New World Van Lines and User-Hero.
Four years later, Cheboi returned to Kenya and brought back her expertise with a view to uplift local communities.
On December 12, 2022, Cheboi was crowned the CNN Hero of the Year, with online voters selecting her from a team of 10 trailblazers.
