Kawira Mwangaza

Kawira Mwangaza

Kawira Mwangaza is the first female governor of the county of Meru.

Mwangaza, who vied on an independent ticket during the 2022 general elections, floored political bigwigs including the immediate governor Kiraitu Murungi and United Democratic Alliance (UDA) aspirant Mithika Linturi to win the gubernatorial race.

She garnered 209,148 votes compared to the 183,859 and 110,814 votes that Linturi and Kiraitu registered respectively.

However, months after being sworn into office, her relationship with the Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) got sour to an extent that they initiated her impeachment.

Mwangaza did her post-primary education at Moyale Girls High School before proceeding to Uganda-based Makerere University, where she graduated with a certificate in Human Resource Management in 2009.

Her quest for education did not stop there, Kawira later joined Global Collage, a higher learning institution located in Kampala, where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in guiding and counseling.

Mwangaza married her partner Robert Murega Rimberia popularly known as Murega Baichu in 2018 in a colorful ceremony which took place in her home county. Her husband is a pastor who doubles up as a musician.
