The Savannah Medical Hospital led by Dr Wachira Murage marked International Women's Day on Friday, March 8, with free education sessions for expectant mothers as a way of empowering them with essential knowledge during their pregnancy.
Dr Murage emphasised that the sessions were necessary since women are the backbone of society. He highlighted that women require special care, especially during pregnancy noting that maternal mortality in the country was alarmingly high.
"In 1,000 live births, we lose 359 women which is a concerning statistic," he added.
Meanwhile one of the women at the event lauded the medical team for the great initiative to guarantee the well-being of expectant mothers.
