Police officers based at Thika West Police Station are investigating the death of 19-year-old University student Faith Musembi who was found murdered in Pilot Estate in Thika, Kiambu County.
Reports indicated that the student's lifeless body was found by her father Boniface Musembi who rushed to his daughter's house after receiving calls demanding ransom through her mobile number.
Alarmed by the situation, Faith's family ceded to the attacker's demands and sent Ksh27,000 to gain her daughter's freedom. The attacker, however, declined to release Faith and instead demanded Ksh33,000 extra from the family.
Faith's family reported the matter at Thika West Police Station but police officers, according to the family, believed there was no course for alarm.
"They (police officers) informed me that it could be a trick played by my daughter's friends...," Boniface said.
Not convinced by the reaction from the police officers, the family chose to visit the university to report the matter.
Additionally, Boniface visited his daughter's house in Pilot Estate only to find her lifeless body lying on the floor.
"We took action and went to her house and broke the lock. Upon gaining access, I was shocked to find my daughter's body lying on the floor," he went on.
Minutes later, police officers arrived at the scene and have since launched investigations to establish what could have transpired.
Her father revealed details of the messages sent by Faith Musembi's killer:
Father: Your days are numbered. What you did to her is unforgivable.
Attacker: No problem, when my time comes, I will follow suit. You failed to follow simple instructions and chose to do things your way.
Father: All the money sent was not enough?
Attacker: How much is Ksh27,000 and I needed Ksh60,000? The mother was so clever to fool me that she would send it by 8:00 am then when that time came she began to ignore (my texts). The results are right with you.
A post-mortem examination conducted on the body on Friday at General Kago Funeral Home revealed that Faith died due to excessive bleeding.
Faith's cousin Dominic Makau demanded swift justice with the postmortem suggesting Faith was pregnant at the time of her death.
"According to the doctor, she had bleeding in the uterus caused by the placenta detaching itself. We need the DCI to investigate and determine what led to that," he remarked.
