Meru Businessman Mike Mutembei, popularly referred to as Makarina, appealed for help in tracing a driver who reportedly robbed him of Ksh800,000 in cash while leaving Meru Night event.
The businessman, who harbours a keen interest in politics, shared on Sunday morning that the driver took the money and made away with his personal phone valued at Ksh220,000.
He further revealed that he was left in a moving car when the driver made away with the loot.
"My driver Just stole over 800K (Kenya shillings) from me (a phone) worth 220K (Kenya shillings) on our way from Meru Night," stated the businessman who is living with a disability.
"He left me in the car while moving I almost died, anyone who will come across him report to the nearest police station."
Makarina told his over 300,000 followers that the driver left him in the middle of the road and later withdrew funds from his other accounts.
"My driver has left me in the middle of the road, disappeared with my phone, cash money that was in the vehicle and withdrawn money from various mobile money accounts," he added.
The total value of the money and goods he stole is yet to be established. It is also unclear if the businessman reported the incident at a police station and the status of the investigations.
Previous reports named the businessman among the wealthiest from Meru and County and he is believed to have participated in contributing to the political campaigns of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
He also served as chairman of the powerful lobby group – Kenya Miraa Farmers and Traders Association and previously explained his support for Raila as having been born out of the then President Uhuru Kenyatta's regime's failure of uplifting the miraa trade.
“I have been helping people for free and I don’t seek any elective post. All I want is to educate Kenyans, especially our Meru people," he stated in 2018.
He has also served as patron of the Africa Disabled Network.
