The University of Nairobi (UoN) is the only Kenyan university which has signed a deal with the Qatar Univerity to enhance business education in Africa.
In a statement from the institution issued on Monday, May 13, UoN was among five other African universities which were listed as prominent business schools in the continent.
These include the Business School at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, the University of the Gambia, the College of Business and Economics at Addis Ababa University, and the University of Ghana Business School.
Qatar University through this agreement aims to catalyse a qualitative leap in business education in Africa through enhancing curriculum development, scientific research and strategic management.
"This agreement marks the beginning of a qualitative journey in cross-border and cross-cultural academic solidarity, serving as a platform to strengthen ties of communication and mutual benefit among our educational institutions," Dr Omar Al Ansari the institution's President remarked.
He further added that the program is supported by the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) adding that with this support, the institution empowers faculty members and students to contribute to society.
Ansari also emphasised that the initiative embodied the spirit of solidarity and also the need for academic cooperation among countries.
"The partnership with the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) for this initiative reinforces alignment towards academic excellence and the development of high-quality education that aligns with global standards," he added.
Notably, the signing ceremony was graced by dignitaries from Africa and the Middle East. It marked the commencement of the ambitious project.
At the ceremony, Khalifa Al-Kuwari the GFFD Director General remarked that the development fund has continued to enhance the quality of business education with all partner countries and institutions.
"Our goal is to stimulate economic growth, foster innovation, and empower individuals to realize their full potential by strengthening partnerships with organizations such as the Association of Africa Business Schools (AABS) and international accreditation bodies. This ensures that our efforts are based on excellence and aligned with the best global educational practices," he added.
UoN has in the past been ranked among the top universities in the continent and in Kenya.
