A Kenyan man lost his life after being run over by a car in Wollongong, in the NSW Lake Illawarra region of Australia on Sunday night while inspecting the damage to his car following a minor accident.

The man who has since been identified as Joel Kandie, is said to have lost his life after being fatally hit by another motorist after he (kandie) stopped to check his vehicle.

Australian police reports indicated that Kandie’s car struck a concrete barrier at the edge of the road which prompted him to stop and check the extent of damage to his car.

While assessing the damage to his car, another motorist ran him over, killing him on the spot.

"We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of a Kenyan national in a road accident in Australia. Our thoughts and condolences are with the family during this difficult time," Alfred Koech, a Kenyan living in Australia said.

Australian media reported that the 52-year-old man who was behind the wheel of the vehicle that hit Kandie was not injured.

An investigation is ongoing with the Australian police requesting for dashcam footage to assist in establishing how kandie was hit.

Kandie is said to have been residing in Sydney, Australia, for the past one year.

Media reports have indicated that the family has been notified about the passing of their kin and has since commenced plans to bring his remains home.

The incident comes a few months after two Kenyan students passed away in an accident that happened in the Western City of Perth, Australia.

In January media reports stated that the vehicle they were travelling in veered off the road hit a tree and burst into flames.
