Residents of Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County were left in fear after CCTV footage showed a lioness jumping into a house by scaling a perimeter wall at night.

The lioness was captured at around 9pm walking around in the neighborhood before it jumped onto the top of the wall and into the compound.

Moments later, the animal was seen coming out of the house dragging a black dog in its mouth. It walked around for a few moments before it vanished.

According to some of the residents who shared their experiences with journalists, cases of dogs vanishing at night have increased in the recent past with footage from such incidences showing that lionesses on the loose from the national park in Rongai were behind the disappearances.

The almost 2-minute video went viral on Wednesday, May 22, after which a section of Kenyans called upon the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to intervene and ensure the wild animal is captured and taken back to the national park.

Additionally, residents of the neighboring areas were urged to exercise caution since bumping into the lions especially at night was not entirely impossible.

This development comes after KWS issued an alert on lions roaming in Lang'ata Constituency, which is not far from Rongai.

On May 16, KWS urged the residents to stay vigilant and report any cases of wild animals roaming to the agency through contact details availed on various channels such as the official KWS website.

A day after the alert was issued, KWS revealed that there was displacement of wildlife majorly due to the ongoing heavy rains being experienced across the country.

The displacement is anticipated to cause unexpected encounters which may lead to human-wildlife conflict.

"As a precaution, KWS cautions the public to avoid outdoor activities in those areas, especially after dusk. The safety of people and promoting wildlife coexistence is our priority," KWS added in its statement.

Besides lions, Kenyans have also come face to face with hyenas which have wreaked havoc in Thika, Kiambu County.
