Kenya Met Lists Regions to Receive Heavy Rains This Weekend

The Kenya Meteorological Department on Friday warned Kenyans to brace for moderate to heavy rainfall in various parts of the country.

Among the regions that are set to receive rainfall include Counties in the Western region, the Rift Valley region and the Central Highlands which encompass Nairobi County.

In its weekend weather forecast, the weather department stated that the above areas would receive moderate to heavy rainfall that would stretch through the weekend.

"From Friday 24 and Saturday 25 May, expect moderate to heavy rainfall in some parts of the country," the meteorological department warned.

In Nairobi, rains were expected in Makadara, Westlands, Kamukunji, Embakasi Central, North and West, as well as Mathare and Ruaraka.

Kenyans living in the above areas were warned to be on the lookout for potential floods that could cause destruction and even lead to deaths.

According to Kenya Met, the rains would fall in the afternoon after sunny and cloudy intervals.

Additionally, rainy weather would also be experienced in Mombasa, Kisumu and Nyeri while Nakuru and Marsabit would experience sunny intervals for the better part of the weekend.

Similarly, sunny intervals were predicted in Meru, Kitui, Machakos and Makindu while Lamu County would experience light showers.

Kenyans were further urged to prepare for a change in temperatures with daytime temperatures expected to increase up to more than 30°C while night temperatures were expected to drop drastically.

High average daytime temperatures of more than 30°C would be experienced in most parts of the Coast, North-eastern and North-western Kenya.

Meanwhile, average night-time temperatures would drop to less than 10°C over some parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley.
