Standard Media Group is mourning the death of a seasoned journalist who passed away while undergoing treatment at a Kiambu hospital.
Reports indicated that journalist Shadrack Mitty passed away while at the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTTRH).
According to Standard Group, Mitty was a seasoned journalist covering Education news for the media outlet and had worked several shifts under the then Standard Group boss Joe Ageyo who is now at the Nation Media Group.
Reports indicated that the journalist had been battling a blood disease for an unspecified amount of time until his demise.
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Communications Director Philip Etale eulogised the deceased as a dependable journalist who was good at his job.
"Waking up to the sad news of the passing on of my friend and colleague in journalism Shadrack Mitty," mourned Etale.
"This was one journalist who loved his job. He was dedicated and never shied from asking as many questions as possible to understand the story for informed dissemination to the masses. The media industry has lost a good man."
Several other journalists, both at the Standard Group and out, also praised Mitty for upholding integrity in his work.
Kennedy Muriithi, the former journalist at NTV, referred to Miti as his friend after both started out their careers at QTV, a defunct Swahili outlet at NMG.
Ken Mijungu, the Standard Group Broadcast Deputy Editor, praised the deceased for having an unrivaled professionalism.
"His dedication was unquestionable, professionalism unrivaled. A friendly team member whose contacts in the education sector made all the difference in our work.
"He was a good man, a perfect gentleman,” stated Mijungu.
Mitty's TV career blossomed in 2012 when he joined QTV where he served until 2016 before moving to KTN under Standard Group.
