United Democratic Alliance Party Secretary General Cleophas Malala on Thursday disclosed that the ruling party is firming up plans to establish a school to educate leaders at a time when most of the outfit's members are embroiled in wrangles.

Malala explained that the UDA Leadership School will be instrumental in educating leaders on their roles and teaching them the party manifesto.

The Secretary General stated that individuals intending to run for elective office using the UDA party ticket would be expected to enroll at the school for a short course before securing the ticket.

"Right now, we are looking at putting the UDA leadership school in place to teach leaders to ensure that the party has leaders who understand their job description. We will ensure that before you get a UDA ticket to run for any elective seat, you must enroll for a short course to learn our manifesto and party policy," Malala explained.

Speaking at Citizen TV, Malala said that the school will also mentor young leaders to ensure those exiting the scene are handing over to a competent team.

"The school will also mentor young leaders so that when we exit the scene, we will have others to take over from us. We are seriously thinking of building a strong political party. That will influence good governance," he stated.

He disclosed that President William Ruto was intentional about building the party by setting up a strong foundation to cement its top position in the politics of the country.

"The president has prioritised building the party, which is why I was in China to ensure the party's strong foundation. We are also building party structures; we have been able to build our organs like the National Elections Board," he said.

Malala confirmed that the ruling party was also holding grassroots elections in all the polling centres in the country to ensure they have officials everywhere.

"We are doing grassroots elections. We are the first party in the history of Africa to hold party elections from the polling centre. We have put in place the Election Dispute and Resolutions Committee to handle internal issues," he explained.

To cement his authority, the former Kakamega County Senator said, he is answerable to President Ruto and his role is to fast-track the implementation of the UDA manifesto for accountability to Kenyans.

Currently, the Secretary General is under fire for putting on-the-spot leaders he claimed were in "blatant disrespect to the party leadership".
