According to the charge sheet, the suspect alongside others allegedly stole a battery used for a police communication gadget and a mobile phone valued at Ksh50,000.

Per the suspect's attorney, the teenager may be granted bail since he was still a student. If he is charged with criminal offences, the teen will be presented before the traffic court to face trial.

The law outlines that if he is found guilty, the suspect faces a death sentence for robbery with violence, and  Ksh1 million fine or 10 year imprisonment or both for assaulting an officer and resisting offence.

This comes after the teen was arrested on Sunday in Kayole after the video of him assaulting the officer went viral. After the arrest, the teen was detained by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

When asked why he committed the act, the suspect alleged that the officer had demanded a huge bribe and he got irritated leading to the physical altercation.

"I was angry, We were not understanding each other because he wanted a lot of money which I could not get," the suspect stated after his arrest.

In a video showing his arrest, the teen revealed that this was his first time assaulting an officer. He added that he did not have prior training.

The initial incident was recorded in the Mirema area where the suspect dressed in jeans and a red basketball jersey hit the officer who fell to the ground.

The suspect continued to assault the officer who was attempting to get up. The incident caught the attention of other motorists who rushed to the officer's rescue.

When the teenager saw that the motorists and locals heading in his direction, he fled leaving the officer in critical condition. This video sparked outrage among Kenyans who called for the student's arrest.
