The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) revealed how a man lured a 22-year-old lady into a vehicle before an attempted rape incident.

In a statement by the DCI on Saturday, June 8, the lady was walking near a shopping centre in Murang'a before she was approached by a man in a vehicle.

According to the police, the man presented himself as a good samaritan who was willing to give her a free ride to her home.

However, after she was inside the vehicle, the man started making advances at her, making the 22-year-old uncomfortable.

Police added that the man also attempted to force himself on the lady, a move that prompted her to scream.

With the doors locked, the lady attempted to free herself from the vehicle. Police indicated that after some attempts she managed to unlock the door and jumped out.

"She reported the matter to the police, who upon investigation, identified the suspect," DCI stated.

Consequently, police launched a manhunt for the suspect who is reported to have attempted to commit suicide when he realised that the police had cornered him.

"Overcome by the fear of prison life coupled with the shame and guilt of his actions, he downed a bottle of poison.

"But neither heaven nor hell was ready to receive him without clearing with the third planet first. Before he could succumb, the police showed up at his house," DCI documented.

According to the investigative agency, the man was rushed to the Thika Level 5 hospital where he is receiving treatment.

The suspect will be arraigned in court after fully recovering. Apart from attempted rape, the man is also facing charges of attempted suicide which is a misdemeanour.
