Kenyans seeking to migrate to Canada as skilled immigrants under the express entry option will be required to show proof they are in possession of at least Ksh1.3 million.

This was after the Canadian Immigration Department on June 2024 updated its proof of funds policy breaking down the amount of money needed for prospective migrants seeking to settle in Canada.

“Proof of funds is how you show us that you have enough money to settle in Canada. If we invite you to apply, you must give written proof that you have this money,” the Canadian government stated.

According to the update, Kenyans seeking to migrate through the Federal Skilled Worker or Trades program must show they have the funds.

If you are already authorised to work in Canada and have a valid job offer you will be exempted from the proof of funds requirement.

The amount of money you need to have is calculated based on your family size with Kenyans who do not have any dependents required to have Ksh1.3 million (CAD 14,690).

A family of two will be required to have Ksh1.7 million while a family of three needs to have Ksh2.1 million.

If you have 7 family members who depend on you, you will have to show proof you have Ksh3.6 million.

“If more than 7 people, for each additional family member, add Ksh371,000 (CAD3,958),” the Canadian government reveals.

Interestingly, having the specified amount of money is compulsory even if you are leaving your family members in Kenya.

So as to prove that you can legally access the money once you land in Canada, you are not allowed to use equity on real property as proof of settlement funds.

Additionally, your application to migrate to Canada will be rejected if it is found out that you borrowed the money from another person.

“For proof, you must get official letters from any banks or financial institutions where you have an account,” Kenyans and other nationalities are advised.
