Tut Gatluak, South Sudan's Presidential advisor on security affairs has expressed confidence in the ongoing peace talks being held in Nairobi.
While speaking to Sudan Tribune, Gatluak revealed that the talks will not only ensure peace and stability in South Sudan but will also serve as an example to other countries facing similar political disputes.
"Peaceful dialogue to settle political differences is the universal practice," he added,
He further revealed that ceasefire talks on humanitarian issues will resume after consultations between the parties have been concluded.
Gatluak added that the consultations must be approved by principal leaders and key actors in the current conflict in Sudan.
"As we have seen, the effects of war in Sudan on South Sudan and other countries in the region, a peaceful environment in South Sudan can influence the things and approach in Sudan," the advisor stated.
Officials from these parties including the opposition are in the country engaging in the peace talks.
He revealed that the talks had stalled because the parties needed to consult and brief their leaders.
"When they are done, they will return to mediation, and everyone will be informed of the next course of the process," he added.
Last year, President Salva Kiir requested President William Ruto to mediate the talks to ensure peace is restored in South Sudan and the teams came to a mutual agreement.
Before the talks began in May, President Ruto appointed former Army commander Lazarus Sumbeiywo to mediate the talks. They have been ongoing smoothly in Nairobi despite the challenges faced along the way.
Ruto took over from a community in Rome after President Kiir complained about the slow progress.
