On Tuesday Kenyans from different walks of life took to the streets to protest against the proposed Finance Bill of 2024 which they have stated promotes punitive taxes. 

However the Nairobi Police Commander Adamson Bungei moved to state that the planned demonstrations were illegal prompting the deployment of law enforcement officers to the city.

The first protestors were arrested at around 10:00 AM by plain-cloth policemen

Shortly after, activist Hanifa Farsafi was arrested after police officers take hold of her luggage.

Protestors broke into song and dance to oppose the bill on the streets

Several journalists were caught up in the crossfire as police unleashed teargas and water cannisters to disperse the protestors.

Following the arrest of more than 200 people, the Law Society of Kenya and lawyers moved to the Central Police Station in the afternoon to secure their release.

The lawyers could be heard demanding to speak to the officer in charge of the station.

However, the police ended up lodging teargas cannisters to the lawyers and dispersing them from the station.

Another notable event that happened during the protests was a police officer losing his fingers after a teargas cannister exploded before he lobbed at it protestors

However, in recent developments, activist Hanifa was released on Tuesday evening.

Additionally, Kenyans have continued to camp at the Central Police Station demanding the release of the over 200 protestors who are in police custody.
