Betty Glorious Soita, the wife of the late MP Soita Shitanda has appealed to the government after unknown individuals attacked and evicted them from her home.
According to the family members who spoke to the press on Wednesday, the goons came and forced them out of their 100-acre plot in Tongaren, Bungoma County without a reason.
The relatives are pointing fingers at the Bungoma County government for the recent evictions.
Family members argue that some individuals in the county government do want the widow to occupy her late husband's property.
Soita's wife was backed by other residents in the community who came forth to defend her and oppose the unlawful evictions.
The residents emphasised that the deceased was the rightful owner of the plot and that the said individuals should stop harassing the widow.
One of the residents revealed that he accompanied the MP when he wanted to purchase the land. He was there at the negotiation after viewing the plot.
"As the driver and personal assistant to Soita, I can confirm that this land belongs to him. I was with him when he bought the land," the former employee stated.
Another resident complained that some of the individuals evicting the MP's wife were his friends and had turned their back when she needed them.
Therefore they have called upon the government and the Ministry of Lands to intervene and ensure Shitanda's widow does not lose her property.
Notably, the former MP passed away in 2016 at the age of 56 while receiving treatment at a hospital in Nairobi. He served the Malava constituency and left behind a Ksh70 million estate.
Shitanda also served as an assistant in the office of the president before he was appointed as the Minister for Housing in 2005 and relected in 2007.
