Two Somali MPs have alleged that there was a politically motivated kidnapping attempt on them in Nairobi.
A fellow MP who was with the two stated that the incident occurred after the legislators left a Nairobi hotel.
He elaborated that the MPs were blocked by a car with tinted windows, and both were dragged into the vehicle.
However, the third MP narrowly escaped the alleged abduction attempt and recounted the events of the incident.
"Masked, armed men forcibly pulled both of them, while I narrowly managed to escape before they could apprehend me as well," he said.
He further added that the unidentified assailants harassed his colleagues but would later manage to escape 'unharmed'.
"This brazen kidnapping represents a horrific and frightening precedent that demands the strongest possible condemnation from both the Somali and Kenyan governments," added the legislator, while calling for immediate investigations into the incident.
However one of the MPs confirmed having escaped from the abduction through their social media platforms.
He further alleged that the attempt was politically instigated, however he did not reveal who had committed the act.
“Alx we are safe. Having endured a politically motivated act and a kidnapping against our will in Nairobi. Thanks for the support we received from colleagues within the parliament and Somali citizens. Truth will come out soon Insha Allah,” the MP stated.
The ownership of the car is yet to be established, with the alleged assailants still at large.
Additionally, the Kenyan authorities are yet to issue a statement confirming or denying the matter.
