Comedian Eddie Butita has finally announced that he is opposed to the Finance Bill 2024 after staying out of the limelight for nearly a week.

In a five-paragraph statement he shared on Sunday evening, Butita noted that he had submitted his concerns regarding the Bill away from the public's glare.

However, his decision to go public was partly influenced by intense criticism the comedian has faced for remaining mum regarding the bill neither did he show up during the protests.

In his defence, Butita explained that during his career, he shied away from making political stands.

"Over the years, I have shied away from making political stands, but I agree this is not a political moment, with my status, my silence is not warranted. It 'creases.'" He stated.

"The Finance Bill, as it stands, is not okay. I played a role and submitted my concerns and will do it again when needed because I am a citizen and a businessman. I want the best for my countrymates, family, friends, and colleagues."

"All said and done, it is time to publicly make my position official. I, Eddie Butita, #RejectFinanceBill2024. It is time to listen. We can not be all wrong," he added.

For the better part of last week, Butita had been dragged for failing to join protests that erupted across the country.

Earlier, the protesters, who are majorly Gen Zs, accused the comedian of dalliance with the state since he participated in President William Ruto's State Visit to the United States.

Butita was part of Ruto's 30-plus delegation to the United States during the state visit in the last week of May.

While in the US, Butita and other comedians brushed shoulders with global superstars among them show host Steve Harvey.

Since the trip, however, the government has fallen out of favour with the country's youngest generation eligible to vote after instituting new taxes in the Finance Bill most people consider punitive.

Despite rescinding some of the taxes, the protesters insist that the Bill should be rejected in totality.
