Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki on Monday explained that all protestors must adhere to the laid-out rules during tomorrow's anti-finance bill protests.

While speaking during a press briefing, Kindiki emphasised that no protestor will be allowed to vandalise or destroy any property whether public or private.

"The protestors must remain peaceful and unarmed throughout the assembly and demonstration," he added.

He added that the Constitutional right to picket did not allow the destruction of property. On this, he added that the protestors were limited from accessing some areas which are protected for national security reasons.

Protestors are barred from accessing critical areas for the supply of water, power or other social amenities. Also, they should not interfere with public activities.

"They must not interfere with road, rail, sea or air transport in any manner whatsoever. Whatever the matter the rule of law on public order must be obeyed by every person," he added.

The CS also stated that all protestors will be required to conduct in a way that does not promote violence or riots. Also, they must not breach public order.

Additionally, all protestors must not intimidate or harass other members of the public who are not protesting or police officers.

They should also inform the police of their intention to exercise this right. Police must also be aware of the timings.

Police must also be informed of the routes the protestors intend to take during the demonstrations in order to offer security and ensure there is law and order.

"They must also follow any other guidelines or law enforcement officers to ensure they are protected from non-protestors or infiltrators," he added.

All protests are required to come to an end at sunset or at 6.30 pm.

The demonstrators must also not obstruct traffic of any kind throughout the protests. He added that this violates the rights of other Kenyans who are not participating in the demonstrations.

CS Kindiki assured that the government was keen to ensure everyone's rights were protected.
