The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party called out President William Ruto over the deployment of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to quell protests across Kenya following the Tuesday anti-Finance Bill protests.

In a statement, Julius Malema's party termed the move as unethical opining that the military ought to focus on securing the country's borders.

Therefore, the party called on Ruto to withdraw the military and the other security agencies from the streets.

"Deploying the military against your own people is simply unethical. The role of the military is to protect the nation, not to confront unarmed protesters with legitimate grievances.

"The EFF once again calls upon President Ruto to immediately cease the violent suppression of protesters, withdraw the military and police from the streets, and engage in meaningful dialogue with the citizens of Kenya," read the statement in part.

On the other hand, the South African political outfit advised Ruto to heed the cries of Kenyans and withdraw the Finance Bill, 2024.

According to Malema's outfit, dialogue is the best option to alleviate the protests. On Tuesday, the anti-finance bill protests turned chaotic and threatened to descend into anarchy.

He also mourned Kenyans who lost their lives in the protests, calling on security agencies to exercise restraint.

"The voices of the people must be heard and respected, not silenced through bloodshed and intimidation.

"It is imperative that those responsible for these heinous acts are held accountable and that all detained protesters are released without delay," the party added.

Malema joins worldwide leaders who have called on the government to adopt dialogue over the Bill.

The Bill was passed in Parliament on Tuesday with a majority of Kenya Kwanza lawmakers backing it. The Bill is set to be taken to the President for assent.
