The Global Peace Foundation has issued a statement following the cancellation of the opening ceremony for a conference that was to be officiated by President William Ruto on June 26.

Further, the organisation stated that they cancelled the Opening ceremony of the organisation to allow President William Ruto time to focus on the affairs of the nation and find the best way forward together with the People of Kenya.

In the statement, the foundation also stated that they were pleased with Ruto’s decision to withdraw the Finance Bill 2024.

“We are pleased to hear President Ruto's announcement on June 26, 2024 that he declined to sign the Finance Bill 2024 in accordance to the wishes of his people, read the statement in part.

However, the organisation mourned all those who lost their lives and were injured citing that they were hopeful for the peaceful resolution of the issues at hand.

Additionally, the organisation supported Kenyans’ commitment to spirituality, advising Kenyans to turn to their spiritual leaders to find wisdom and guidance.

Further, the Global Peace Foundation explained that Kenya’s constitution enshrined values which provided for the peaceful resolution of conflict.

Kenyans were further urged to create a safe environment for all despite having contentious issues to resolve with the government.

“We beseech all Kenyans to continue to work to resolve contentious situations in a manner that is true to those ideals without violence, without destruction of property, and in ways that do not create an environment that is unsafe for all Kenyans,” stated the Foundation.

In the wake of the raging protests across the country, several organisations have cancelled planned events in the country.

On Tuesday,  the Kenya Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) cancelled an investment conference that was supposed to be held in Kisumu.

KNCCI through Nyanza International Investment Conference Chairman Japh Olende announced that the event was being cancelled due to the protests.
