The Kenya Meteorological Department has projected chilly nights in Nairobi and counties near the Mt Kenya Region.
In its monthly and weekly forecasts, Kenya Met detailed that the night temperatures in the 10 areas could drop below 10 degrees.
The other counties include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi.
"The temperature forecast for July 2024 indicates that the Highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi County and parts of the Southeastern lowlands are expected to experience low temperatures even though they are likely to be slightly higher than the July average," Kenya Met stated.
As a result, residents were advised to be on the lookout for the rise of respiratory illnesses such as flu.
"Due to the expected cool and chilly conditions, cases of respiratory diseases such as asthma, pneumonia, flu, and the common cold are likely to increase in areas such as Nairobi, the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, parts of the Central and South Rift Valley, and parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley.
"To avoid contracting diseases, the general public is advised to dress warmly and to follow the advice of the Health Authorities," Kenya Met advised.
Meanwhile, Kenyans were advised against using jikos in their houses to keep warm during the cold nights, especially for those living in poorly ventilated houses.
On the other hand, Kenya Met noted that there would be fog formations along the Nairobi Naivasha highway, further calling on motorists to observe speed limits.
"Care should be taken while driving in these areas especially along the Nairobi-Naivasha Highway and particularly on the Kikuyu-Kinungi stretch. Light rains and drizzles may also cause roads to be slippery.
"Fog may occasionally pose a challenge to operations at the Wilson and Jomo Kenyatta International Airports," the weatherman added.
Weather Forecast Till July 8
- High daytime temperatures are expected in parts of the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western characterised by sunny and hot conditions.
- Cold and cloudy weather is expected in parts of the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, South-eastern lowlands, and the Rift Valley.
- Average night-time temperatures are forecasted to be low, dropping below 10 Degrees Celcius in areas like Nairobi.
- Rainfall is anticipated in parts of the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and the Coast.
