He was later bundled into a car that sped off to an undisclosed location in the direction of Mombasa County.

Wambua, speaking to journalists after his release disclosed that the police who took hold of him claimed to be hunting down people who were inciting others in anti-government protests.

He further alleged that he pleaded for his release stating that he was not guilty of any offence.

His release comes hours after the Wiper Party issued an ultimatum to the Inspector General of Police terming the MCA’s abduction as a gross violation of rights.

"We demand that Hon Wambua be released immediately and returned to his family in Makindu, Makueni County. We also demand that the government immediately end these illegal actions and release all others who have been arbitrarily arrested," the letter read.

Further, the WDM in its demand letter asserted that it held the Inspector General personally responsible for the safety and well-being of Wambua.

However, in another alleged abduction case, a protestor was found dead and his body was dumped in a quarry.

Denzel Omondi, a student at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology was said to have gone missing in mysterious circumstances and was among protestors who marched to Parliament on June 25, 2024.
