Govt Announces 4,000 Internship Positions Under Affordable Housing Program; How to Apply

The State Department for Housing and Urban Development (SDHUD) has announced 4,000 internship opportunities for Kenyan graduates seeking to work in the Affordable Housing Program (AHP). 

This is part of President William Ruto’s vision to construct 200,000 housing units every calendar year to end the nation’s housing crisis. 

According to an advert by the SDHUD, the internship program will provide an opportunity for the engagement of young professionals in the built environment and related sectors.

Successful applicants will work in the following areas of proficiency; Architecture, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Land Surveyors. 

Opportunities are also available in the following fields; Geoinformatics, Landscape Architecture, Interior Design, Social Development, Urban and Regional Planning Environmental Scientists, Health and Safety, Communication and Branding, and ICT. 

Requirements

All interested Kenyans must have at least a bachelor’s degree in the aforementioned fields of proficiency. 

Successful applicants will then work in the affordable housing sector for 12 months and will be remunerated in accordance with the terms governing internship as per the Public Service Commission.

“The interns working under registered professionals will maintain work portfolios which will form part of the requirements leading to professional examination and registration,” SDHUD stated adding that a certificate will be issued upon completion of the internship. 

How to Apply

Interested candidates are requested to log into www.ahpjobs.info to submit their application.

Candidates will fill in personal details including; names, contacts, and physical addresses.

Additionally, there will be a template provided for filling in professional and educational information as well as professional association membership.

Lastly, applicants will have to write a 500-word essay on “Housing not only provides shelter to Kenyans but also is a great source of employment for citizens and generates demand for manufacturing.”

Documents to be attached to the application form include; a cover letter, curriculum vitae and certificates and testimonials.
