Residents of Gachie in Kiambu County stormed the Kihara Police Station on Wednesday demanding the release of relief food held at the station.

The irate residents demanded that area MP John Njuguna (Kawanjiku) orders the distribution of the food with immediate effect.

According to the residents, the food was donated earlier this year by the government and well-wishers as relief for vulnerable flood victims.

However, the food and other materials such as blankets and mattresses, had been held at the stores for months.

Further, the residents claimed that the area chiefs, despite having collected and listed the proposed beneficiaries, were awaiting orders from the MP.

“We have come in peace and we want the food to be released and we are very angry," stated the residents.

NGOs involved in the donation of food, however, defended the delays stating that the food items were being packed in readiness for distribution.

Following the mounting pressure, the organisations stated that the food would be distributed next week.

The MP was yet to speak on the matter by the time of publishing this article.

In another incident on Thursday, protestors staged demonstrations along the streets of Bomet town as they demanded the immediate ouster of Governor Hillary Barchok.

In the footage that circulated widely on the internet, the protesters could be heard unanimously chanting the governor's name as they called for him to step down.

The residents accused the governor of the delayed implementation of projects in the county.

Following the protests transport and business activities in the town were paralyzed.
