President William Ruto joined his colleagues across the globe in condemning the attempted assassination of former US President Donald Trump.
In a statement issued on behalf of the government and the people of Kenya on Tuesday, Ruto described the incident as troubling.
To the Republican Presidential Candidate, Ruto wished him a quick recovery noting that the country would be keeping him in prayer during this time.
On the other hand, he acknowledged that the incident was tough on the family of the former President adding that his thoughts and prayers were with the family.
"On behalf of the people and government of the Republic of Kenya, I wish to add my voice to those condemning the recent attempted assassination of former U.S. President Donald J. Trump.
"I extend my deepest sympathies to President Trump, his family, and the families of the victims of this shocking, heinous act," he stated.
Meanwhile, he assured that Kenya would continue to maintain its democratic ideals with the US.
"In these troubling times, I take this opportunity to recommit to the democratic ideals we share with the people of the United States of America," the President expressed.
A 20-year-old US citizen was killed after attempting to shoot Trump during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on the wee hours of Sunday morning (Kenyan time).
In the incident that was captured on live TV, Trump was clipped on the ear with the bullet before the Secret Service stepped in to shield him.
The motive of the attempted assassination is still under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
"By luck or by God, many people are saying it's by God I'm still here. I'm supposed to be dead. I'm not supposed to be here," Trump stated after the incident.
After the incident, US President Joe Biden also condemned the attack on his rival in the November elections.
He reiterated that there was no place for political violence in the US as has been witnessed in the recent past.
