Nairobi County Government on Saturday night conducted multiple raids on noisy establishments located in the Harlequins area.
Johnson Sakaja’s administration revealed that they were targeting clubs which were playing loud music.
The county government revealed the next target would be the closure of a noisy club in the Rosslyn area near Ruaka Town bordering Nairobi and Kiambu counties.
“The County Liquor and Environment teams this evening conducted raids on noisy establishments at Harlequins,” a statement from the County Government read in part.
“Nairobi City County Government also issued a closure notice to Mnazini Bar and Restuarant along Limuru Road, Rosslyn Petrol Station.”
In Harlequins, one of the clubs had multiple tents in the open to accommodate the huge number of revellers.
Music was blasted through multiple sound systems located in the various tents causing discomfort to residents in adjacent apartment buildings.
According to a video shared by the County Government, officers were able to control the situation without chaotic scenes being witnessed.
Sakaja in August 2023, warned enforcement officers not to confiscate anything while conducting the night raids.
“Enforcement officers should access an offending premise, measure the decibels and collect all the evidence they need, issue an enforcement notice and leave, then return the next day during the day to take the action they need to,” he directed then.
Sakaja’s administration did not disclose whether the Harlequins clubs faced an imminent shutdown due to flouting sound pollution rules.
The governor had earlier vowed that his administration would shut down all noisy clubs in residential areas.
Alternatively, clubs that wanted to play loud music were advised to install soundproof technology in their establishments.
