The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) founding member Joe Khalende on Friday commended the party's National Executive Committee (NEC) following the dismissal of Cleophas Malala as the party Secretary General.

In a statement, Khalende assured the newly appointed interim Secretary General Hassan Omar of his unwavering support as the latter takes on the new role.

"He is assured of our unequivocal support to support Party Leader President William Ruto to articulate his agenda of recalibrating the economy, uniting Kenya and delivering on his election pledges," stated the recently self-proclaimed party secretary general.

Khalende while underscoring the need for a proper leadership within the party, demanded an immediate and thorough audit of the staff and procurement processes carried out during Malala’s tenure.

He also demanded swift and stern action against all the party officials who were involved in the recent violence and anarchy witnessed at the party headquarters in Nairobi.

“We demand swift and stern action against all the party officials that participated in orchestrating security breaches at the party, perpetrators of violence, saboteurs of the party's agenda,” stated Khalende.

“The Founding Members call upon every member of the party to join hands and in concert help the Party Leader to unite the country.”

Khalende's sentiments follow hours after UDA's NEC resolved to kick out Cleophas Malala following the recent unprecedented occurrences within the party.

"The appointment of Hon Cleophas Malala as the interim Secretary General is hereby revoked. These changes are effective immediately," read part of the statement by UDA.

In its announcement, UDA vowed to make more readjustments within the party's governance and administrative measures to accelerate its agenda.

"As the governing and policy-making organ of the Party, the NEC plays an essential role in driving the political agenda of the party," UDA noted in its statement

The members of the NEC further ordered the party's National Elections Board to make necessary adjustments and continue with the grassroots elections as earlier communicated.
