Confusion is emerging on exactly how President William Ruto and Azimio leader Raila Odinga shelved their political differences and met to strike a deal that saw the former Prime Minister's allies secure plum cabinet positions.

Before a deal was eventually struck, Raila on more than one occasion denied striking any sort of deal with President Ruto.

However, on Monday, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Leader, while speaking at Toi Market claimed that President Ruto begged for help from him to stem the Gen Z movement that was threatening to topple the government.

Speaking to traders at the market, Raila disclosed how senior people in government made desperate calls begging the opposition to front some of its best minds to help in running the country efficiently.

"You saw the guys had been overwhelmed by work, sacked all Cabinet Secretaries, and came to us begging for people. They came kneeling begging us to donate some people," Raila disclosed.

The allegations come weeks after President Ruto nominated four senior members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) into lucrative government positions.

Ruto nominated ODM former Mombasa Governor and ODM Deputy Party leader Ali Hassan Joho, National Chairman John Mbadi, Ugunja MP and Minority Whip Opiyo Wandayi and Wycliffe Oparanya who also deputised Raila.

To explain the nomination of the members into cabinet, the Head of State said he was creating a broad-based government that was going to ensure that his government reflects the face of the country.

“I formed a government that will bring all Kenyans together because I have decided that there is no need to be biased. Let us come together and build one government that will serve the people of Kenya and bring development to the country," President Ruto explained.

According to the president, the new-look government would help to unite Kenyans and bring to an end the biased leadership witnessed previously in Kenya.

During the protests, young Kenyans demanded that the president purge his government and put together an administration based on meritocracy and competence.

Immediately after the nominations were made,  a section of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) MPs claimed that Raila was unaware of the decision to bring senior ODM officials on board.

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna reiterated the same position during an interview when he claimed that he did not know beforehand that Ruto was going to nominate Joho, Oparanya, Mbadi and Wandayi to the cabinet.

At the time, the ODM party distanced itself from the nominations and stated that the members who had been nominated joined the executive in their individual capacity and this was not a party decision.
