Acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli, on Thursday, asked former Presidential Aspirant Jimi Wanjigi to surrender another car to any police station.

While addressing the press, Masengeli noted that the businessman is wanted by the police to record a statement after several items linked to criminals believed to have infiltrated the Nane Nane protests were recovered from his car.

The acting IG further noted that the officers from the National Police Service (NPS) intercepted a Toyota Prado TX believed to have fanned the protests and recovered 14 items from it. Another car, however, gained entrance into his compound before being searched by the police.

They included four teargas canisters, two Motorolla gadgets, seven assorted chargers for pocket phones, and one mobile phone.

"Despite the failure by conveners of today's demonstration to notify the police of their intention to hold the demonstration, we ensured the adequate deployment of security personnel and cautioned members of the public to avoid crowded areas that were likely to turn riotous," he told the press.

"Today, we intercepted a personal motor vehicle Prado model in Muthaiga at the residence of Jimi Wanjigi. In the vehicle, we have recovered four teargas canisters, two Motorolla gadgets, seven assorted chargers for the pocket phones, and one mobile phone."

"Our appeal is that he surrenders to the nearest Police Station," Masengeli appealed to the businessman who is still in hiding.

In his address, Masengeli further revealed that one officer was injured after a fracas broke out during the protests while 174 suspects were arrested, 126 of whom were in Nairobi.

Earlier, a contingent of police officers camped outside Jimmy Wanjigi's home seeking access to his property but failed.

The officers had tracked the Prado TX owned by the businessman which raced and parked outside his Muthaiga home.

Earlier reports indicated that the car had allegedly been spotted along Limuru Road distributing money.

In a series of tweets, Wanjigi, who was not at home during the incident, announced that police officers were planning to raid his property.

“The police have decided to raid my home,” he lamented.

His son, Maina Wanjigi, speaking moments after the raid claimed he and his family were not surprised by the events. "It's not shocking. It's not the first time we have been raided. It seems whenever we are a threat to them, they decide to raid us," he stated.
