A family is mourning the death of a boda boda rider who was hit by one of the vehicles in the entourage of a high-ranking government official on Saturday, September 7, in Goshen area along Ichamara - Kiahungu Road.
The entourage was returning from Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri where government officials had visited to condole with affected families. A fire in the school claimed the lives of 21 pupils.
It was alleged that the vehicle in which the official was travelling in hit a boda boda rider identified as Peterson Ngugi who died on the spot.
According to a relative of the victim, the deceased was coming from a funeral with a friend. The incident took place in the evening, at around 6 pm.
The vehicle hit the rider and dragged him forward several metres, causing him fatal injuries in the process.
According to an eye witness,, the vehicle tried to speed off but the victim was hanging underneath it forcing the driver to stop.
The friend, who was driving in a separate vehicle, was reportedly stopped from taking picture of the victim below the vehicle by the perpetrators.
Police arrived shortly and took the body to a mortuary in Mukurwe-ini and are yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
The revelations resurfaced from a post by the eye witness who, in emphatic messages called out relevant authorities to intervene.
“You wanted to run away but my brother hanged under your vehicle to ensure your identity is known,” the post read.
Earlier, a government team had paid a visit to Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri to condole with the affected families and deliver advance support for the school.
The family of the deceased are calling on the relevant authorities to intervene.
The accident comes as there have been a series of accidents on the weekend. The recent one was of a bus full of passengers that overturned along Thika Superhighway.
