Police in Chavakali, Vihiga are on the hunting trail for two suspects who fled a crime scene leaving behind a relatively new Subaru and one accomplice to carry the blame for their alleged crimes.
The three accomplices were transporting bhang worth Ksh3.6million in a white Subaru before police closed in on them at the Chavakali area.
The bhang was reportedly destined for Nakuru with the suspects deciding to travel through the highway that joins Nakuru to the Western region.
As the suspects were driving along the Kisumu- Kakamega highway, they realized after a while that they were being trailed by the police.
At this point, two of the three suspects in the white Subaru jumped out. One of the three was however arrested during the chaos and is now in custody.
The suspect is expected to assist law enforcement officers with investigations as they seek to unravel the case.
Vihiga County Police Commander, Peter Katam confirmed the incident. He told the press that the narcotics did not originate from his area of jurisdiction stating the contraband had been ferried from a different county.
He reiterated the government's stance that the war on narcotics would go on incessantly to ensure young children are protected from the harmful effects of drug usage.
"We have stepped up the war against narcotics and those who engage in this trade will not be prosperous here in Vihiga."
This comes after 4 suspected drug traffickers were on August 12 arrested at their hideout in the Fisheries area of Bamburi in Mombasa County and cannabis worth Ksh16.6 million recovered from their home.
The arrests came after a tip off from members of the public. The suspects were escorted to the Coast Regional Police Headquarters for further investigations.
Police also seized the bhang and a motor vehicle, as exhibits.
