Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament George Peter Kaluma has attracted negative attention from American and global media outlets after posting inaccurate information regarding American Presidential Candidate Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party campaign.
The MP recently revealed that he has traveled to the United States to campaign for Republican Presidential Candidate and former President Donald Trump, largely because of his conservative views.
To that end, the MP has been active on social media, making posts revolving around the US presidential election where he has ferociously campaigned for Trump.
However, the MP shared misleading information in one of the posts where he posted a photo of The Mayor of Cork from Ireland Dan Boyle standing alongside nudists from a recent cycling event.
"The reason I have left USA Democrats to support Republicans. Democrats have lost it!" read the tweet posted on September 11, accompanied by an image of naked cyclists covered in paint.
Kaluma, in his caption, cited this as one of the main reasons why he left Kenya to go and campaign for Trump and why he is solidly behind the Republicans.
The Irish leg of the World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) took place in Cork city center on August 27.
Naturally, the post attracted the attention of some media outlets in the US and in Ireland. Journalists took issue with the MP posting inaccurate information to discredit the Kamala Harris campaign.
Cork's 96FM presenters revealed that it was very disheartening that such a leader could be in the front leading misinformation. According to the radio journalists, the saddest part was that barely 2 people from the comments could notice that the image used was wrong and that more people are falling victim to misinformation on social media.
"The danger in this is that I read the comments and only two people said that the photo was wrong and was from Cork. Pure falsehood is heightening on social media", the journalists said.
The ODM MP who has travelled to the US to campaign for Trump has been calling Presidential Candidate Kamala Harris fake, as he makes his stance known that he is a Trump supporter.
Coincidentally, last year, the Member of Parliament launched a campaign to clamp down on the LGBTQ community in Kenya.
As part of his proposed Bill, Kaluma called for life sentences for those involved in same-gender activity.
