The High Court on Monday granted a Ksh1 million anticipatory bond to Mombasa Lands County Executive Committee (CEC) Mohammed Hussein in a blogger's assault case.
Issuing the ruling, High Court Judge Wendy Kagendo granted Mohammed’s application for an anticipatory bond barring his arrest pending the hearing of the case.
"The applicant is hereby granted a bond of Ksh1 million with one surety and contact person," High Court Judge Wendy Kagendo ruled.
Hussein was further granted an alternative cash bail of Ksh500,000 and required to present two contact persons.
At the same time, the Court directed Mohammed Hussein to surrender his passport and not to leave the country without permission from the court.
Judge Wendy Kagendo also instructed Hussein to report to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) for further probing and interrogation.
"If Hussein fails to comply with the summons and there is sufficient evidence of service then a warrant of arrest shall be issued," the Court added stressing the need for Hussein to cooperate during the investigations that will take six months.
The CEC was arrested concerning the assault of blogger Bruce John who criticised the Mombasa County Government on his social media posts.
Earlier, the Coast Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss Adan Guyo stated Mohammed Hussein's arrest was linked to the gang-rape of blogger Bruce.
Governor Abdulswamad Nassir absolved himself of any wrongdoing in connection to the case arguing the accusations levelled against him were as a result of a political witch hunt. Nassir’s mother was also roped into the case where the police suspected she aided some suspects related to the case to escape.
It comes as Governor Abdulswamad Nassir recorded a statement with the DCI denying any involvement with the gang-rape of Bruce John.
Previously, four suspects were charged at Shanzu Court with rape and abduction of the Mombasa blogger to which they denied the allegations.
