Kenya Met Issues 5-Day Rainfall Advisory for 4 Regions Including Nairobi

The Kenya Meteorological Department on Tuesday cautioned Kenyans living in different parts of the country to brace for occasional rainfall over the next five days from October 22 to October 26.

In its weekly advisory, the weather department warned residents living in the regions of the Highlands East, the West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley to prepare for moderate to heavy downpours.

Kenyans living in the Highlands East counties of Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu and Tharaka Nithi were told to brace for moderate rainfall for the next five days.

According to the Kenya Met, rains in the above counties were forecasted to begin in the morning and were expected to continue until noon with night hours set to be partly cloudy.

The counties of Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi and Nakuru were also projected to experience rainfall in heavy amounts.

Rainfall in the above counties was forecasted to begin in the afternoon and was expected to continue to night hours. In its advisory, the meteorological department announced that the rains would be accompanied by thunderstorms.

Similarly, the counties of Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot were also projected to experience a similar weather pattern. 

Meanwhile, the rest of the country was expected to experience dry and sunny conditions for major part of the week. The counties of Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta Counties as well as inland parts of Tana River County were expected to experience sunny conditions for the next five days.

Temperature Advisory

The meteorological department in its weekend advisory also cautioned residents of Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, and Nairobi counties to prepare for very cold nights.

According to the weather department, the night temperatures in the above counties were expected to drop to 10°C in the first three days of the forecast before rising to 11°C and 12°C for the rest of the days.

Similarly, residents living in Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet and Kakamega were cautioned to brace for high daytime temperatures of up to 31°C. 

Other counties that were cautioned to prepare for hot days include Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Isiolo, Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta.
