Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations(DCI) on Sunday launched a manhunt of two criminals who reportedly gained entry into a house in Eastleigh and seriously assaulted a house help before running away.

In a statement, DCI revealed that the main suspect broke into an apartment at Ushirika Tower in Eastleigh with the help of a Ugandan house help working there.

The suspect reportedly forced his entry into the house using a hammer, an incident that was captured on CCTV and later went viral online.

''On Friday, November 1, 2024, around 4:40 PM, an individual armed with a hammer managed to enter Ushirika Tower in Eastleigh. After gaining entry, he proceeded to an apartment on the sixth floor with the assistance of a house-help named Everlyne, who is a Ugandan national,’’ DCI revealed in a statement.

The suspect, with the help of the foreign national, is reported to have assaulted a 20-year-old Somali house help, Hakimo Muhidin who sustained injuries.

''Hakimo Muhidin sustained serious injuries including a broken tooth and injuries to her hand, head, and legs. Additionally, she exhibited signs of having been whipped, with visible marks on her back,’’ DCI added.

According to the detectives,, various valuables in the house were destroyed due to the scuffle and others stolen. They included electronics.

The sleuths also revealed that the two made away with an unspecified amount of money in Shillings and Dollars.

The suspects, who are currently on the run, are also suspected to have stolen four laptops belonging to the owners of the house.

''During the incident, various valuable items were pilfered, including pieces of gold jewellery, an unspecified amount of cash in both Kes and U.S. dollars, as well as four laptops belonging to the family, which were reported stolen during the incident,'' DCI revealed.

The detectives further revealed that the Ugandan house-help who aided the robbery was employed at the household three weeks ago.

''Evelyne, who had joined the household three weeks before the incident, managed to escape alongside the assailant,'' the detectives added.

During the incident, the husband and his children were away while the wife was in India for treatment.

''At the time of the incident, the tenant, a Somali man, was not at home; he was out with his children, while his wife was reported to be in India for medical treatment. Authorities are continuing their investigations to gather more details regarding the incident and the whereabouts of the suspects,’’ a statement from DCI read in part.

Eastleigh has lately been a hotbed of crime, with detectives still working on a case where three women were abducted before being found murdered, a case that sparked a lot of debate on the rising femicide incidents in the country.
