Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has flown out of the country on his first international official duty as DP just a week after his swearing-in.

Kindiki departed from the country on Friday, November 8, to Gaborone, Botswana. The trip marks Kindiki's first international trip in two years.

The DP was never a fan of foreign travel during his time as Interior Cabinet Secretary, but as he steps into the role of the Deputy President, he will be forced to travel more on official duties to represent President Ruto or Kenya on a need basis.

Kindiki traveled to Botswana to represent Ruto at the inauguration ceremony of President Duma Boko as the newly elected President of the Republic of Botswana.

He was accompanied by Senators Fatuma Dullo (Isiolo) and Eddy Oketch (Migori). Others who tagged along in the trip include National Assembly Members; Owen Baya (Kilifi North), Vincent Musyoka (Mwala), John Njuguna Kawanjiku (Kiambaa), Victor Koech (Chepalungu), and Elisha Odhiambo (Gem).

Kindiki flew out after seeing President Ruto off at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Wednesday for South Sudan.  Ruto is also out of the country as he traveled to Ethiopia flying from Juba to Addis Ababa on Wednesday night.

"Seeing off President William Samoei Ruto as he departed for Juba, South Sudan for the Tumaini Peace Consensus. The Tumaini Initiative supported by Kenya and other development partners, is a progressive model for inclusive peace-building to achieve lasting peace and tranquility in the region," Kindiki informed through his X.

President Ruto is in Ethiopia as he rallies support for Raila Odinga's Africa Union Commission chairperson candidacy.

As part of the president's engagements in Addis Ababa, Ruto on Thursday held a meeting with diplomats across the African Continent based in Ethiopia.

"As the Champion of the African Union Institutional Reforms, addressed the Permanent Representatives Committee comprising African ambassadors to the AU, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia,'' Ruto wrote on his X account.

The president emphasized the importance of Africa becoming organized and building the necessary synergy to tackle the continent's challenges.

He highlighted the need for thorough and consultative reforms to make the institutions of the African Union more accountable, efficient, and effective in serving member states and the people of the continent.

Raila Odinga was also present during Ruto's session on Thursday. The former Prime Minister who is eyeing the AU chairmanship seat is in Addis Ababa for a series of engagements including unveiling his AUC continental campaigns today, Friday, November 7.
